The University of Auckland B201 Redevelopment

Nov 2020 – Sep 2021

Hawkins won the contract to rebuild The University of Auckland's Human Sciences Building B201. This job involves stripping the building back to its frame and then rebuilding it as an environmentally sustainable, fit-for-purpose modern facility. It will house parts of both the Faculty of Education and Social Work and the Faculty of Arts. This project is supported by New Zealand Government as one of the Government’s “shovel ready” initiatives. This building was originally completed in the 1970’s by Hawkins, and due to its age contains significant quantities of asbestos.

Luke is engaged as an Asbestos Engineer, providing expert advice to Hawkins to ensure that the asbestos removal process is undertaken correctly. This role requires significant coordination with the both the independent Licenced Asbestos Assessor and the Asbestos Removalists.
