Resource Recovery and Waste Management
When does any item become waste?
One answer is, when someone does not want it any longer and throws it away. But if that item is sold or given to someone else for them to use is it still waste?
At LADRA we believe that there is a continuum in the waste management cycle, and the 5R’s provide a good model to use.
Reduce |
Why did we buy it in the first place? Only purchase what you actually need and when you need to and making sure that the purchase is to the correct:
|
Reuse |
Once you have purchased something, and it is coming to the end of its first life, ask the question – can it be reused. Possibly it may need repair. |
Recycle |
If it can not be reused, can you (or someone else) change it so that it can be used again? For example concrete can be crushed and recycled as aggregate. |
Recover |
If a product can not be recycled can the energy within it be recovered. For example wood waste can be converted into fuel source. |
Residual Management |
There will always be items that we cannot find a new home for. These items need to be managed via secure disposal options. |
Ladra's understanding of the technologies available, associated costs and environmental impacts means that its expertise has been sought to research new waste management opportunities.
