Clause 32 of the new Asbestos Regulations requires the Removalist to prepare an Asbestos Removal Control Plan. The Regulations lists all the items that must be covered. On first reading people may get a bit nervous and wonder if they are able to produce a ‘correct’ plan. People should not be afraid of the plan and just approach it by answering the ‘W’ questions. As set out below:

  • Why is the project occurring?
  • What asbestos is being removed, including descriptions of type, condition etc?
  • Where is the asbestos that is being removed located and where is it being disposed to?
  • Who is doing the work (removal, clearance etc) and are they qualified and competent?
  • When is the removal work being undertaken?
  • How is it being; removed (tools, equipment, work methods, PPE, RPE etc), monitored (air monitoring points etc), and transported for disposal?

If the following questions are answered, then the basis of the Asbestos Removal Control Plan will have been answered.
